Research projects investigating novel bacterial infections in the Norwegian salmon farming industry for 35 years, including characterization of novel fish pathogenic bacterial agents and genetic analysis of the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria of fish farms related to antibiotic use in controlling infections. Development of fin rot and skin ulcers is a common health problem related to farming of fish and closed systems like RAS facilities seem to be extra susceptible in development of the infections responsible for the ulcers and fin rot with increased mortality. This work has resulted in a start-up company Previwo (https://www.previwo.no) that develops novel vaccines relevant for controlling bacterial infections including skin ulcer and fin rot diseases. This research has also included development of probiotic bacteria that can enhance growth and reduce ulcer problems of farmed salmonids in particular in salt and brackish water. The work has resulted in three patents and one patent application (NO20120000561 20120514; US201415036237 20141113; US201415036229 20141113 and NO20160001144 20160708). Board member on Previwo AS and Bellevacc AS founded from the research related to bacterial infections. Previous board member in Procaryo AS founded 1998 with focus in on-site diagnostic of bacteria in mastitis milk (US20030036109A1).

Well-published, energetic research scientist, with a large work capacity. Specialises in epidemiology of intestinal parasites (particularly protozoa, e.g., Cryptosporidium, Giardia, but also helminths – especially those with zoonotic potential), detection and identification of transmission stages in environmental matrices (particularly food, water, and sewage), outbreak control and risk assessment, viability assays and method development, and interactions of parasites with host nutrition. Wide, established network of collaboration, both nationally and internationally.
